Bloomsburg Softball Falls to Shippensburg at PSAC Championships

LOCK HAVEN- The Bloomsburg University softball team lost 3-2 to Shippensburg University at the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Championships at Lock Haven University on Friday afternoon. With the loss, the Huskies are eliminated from the PSAC Championships.
After three scoreless innings, the Huskies got on the board first in the bottom of the fourth when Kelly Zarski (Paxinos/ Danville) singled to lead off the inning and Alyson Taylor (Jersey Shore/ Jersey Shore) followed one batter later with a two-run home run to give Bloomsburg a 2-0 lead. However, the Lady Raiders cut the lead to 2-1 in the top half of the fifth when Liz Good singled home Katie Heatley from second base.
The score remained the same until the top of the seventh when Shippensburg rallied for two runs to take a 3-2 lead. Tara Reed (Williamsport/ Williamsport), who came in relief of pitcher Ashley Lynn (Riverside/ Danville), had the Lady Raiders down to their final out until Kristen Marll doubled home the tying run from first and then scored on a throwing error during the play.
Bloomsburg was able to get a runner on first in the final inning when Jennifer Davis (Center Valley/ St. Patricks-St. Vincents) was hit by a pitch, but Shippensburg pitcher Kelly Tiesi was able to strike out the next two batters and earn the save.
With the loss, the Huskies fall to 35-15. Despite the loss, Bloomsburg is expected to qualify for the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regionals on May 11-14.
